You can make regular income from blogging as an international student

In every gathering of students either locally or internationally, there used to be a question "what side hustle can earn me extra income?", "How can I make money as a student?", "How can I make money from home?", "I need online jobs" etc .

The truth is that so many acclaimed online jobs do not really pay easily as some bloggers and job racketeers claim. I started my journey as a final year student in the Polytechnic; looking for several online jobs. I paid for several training claiming to help me mine huge in freelancing, online surveys but all was almost equal to zero not until I decided to create my own website and sell my ideas to people.

Blogging

What is blogging?

People call it information website. It is a personal website containing specific type of information for interested online audience.

What can I write about as a newbie?

You can start writing about anything at all. I read so many informative posts on Facebook, tweeter, and other non-monetized  social networks. Some of these posts can be converted to regular blog posts.

One major point about choosing a blogging area is deciding what and what one have deep knowledge about. It is advisable that writers shouldn't write on multiple topics in one blog site. you can choose to write on sports, health, politics, fashion, education etc.

If you have knowledge of multiple topics, the best practice is create other websites for it.

How do bloggers get paid?

Once a blog gets online popularity with appreciable number of visitors everyday. You can apply for monetization. The most popular monetization company is the Google Adsense. Google pays the owner of the blog to place ads on his website. Most of this payment is based on  pay per click or pay per view. The more clicks you get from those ads, the more income generated.

Getting a domain name and hosting plans:

So many newbies would ask what domain names are. Domain names simply means the blog address such as https://saltcitycareers.com.ng, mylog.com.
You can choose any name, but it should be a brief and catchy name that shall reflect the nature of topics you write about, it should also be easy to remember. After, getting a domain, you choose a hosting plan. Hosting plans are like paying for a shop for a choosing number of years while domain name is like paying to secure a business name.

Where do I get a domain name and hosting plans?

So many bloggers make use of WordPress. WordPress provides easy to use tools that help writers market their ideas.

However, Host Africa is an African based company that provides very cheap hosting plans and extremely cheap domain names. O started with Host Africa, you can buy only the domain name and start writing using the Google blogger. The combination of the two will give you a very affordable gateway to start up your blogging journey.

How to get a domain name from Host Africa:

  1. Visit Host Africa website to sign up an account
  2. Search your desired website address to know if it is available.
  3. Select either only the domain name or you can add the hosting plans and make payments.
  4. Connect your new blog address to blogger or WordPress or any other platforms.

Can I do this all alone?

The answer is "yes"; even when zero knowledge of tech or programing skills. However, it always advised that you get a mentor who will guide you passionately on every steps untill you get grounded.

You can apply for your adsense monetization when you website have sizeable numbers of posts and  appreciable number of visitors.

This can be the only side hustle that can pay you handsomely if your articles attracts large online readers.

In the next article I write more explicitly on how to make a post that is search engine optimized. My aim is to provide my readers with a very easy-to-do steps on how to make extra income as a student.

Hope we will meet in our next article...
