The management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards of moral ethics following public reactions to the recent dismissal of some academic staff over allegations of sexual harassment, intimidation, extortion, and related misconduct.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, the University’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze, stated that while the institution appreciates the concerns and contributions of alumni and stakeholders, disciplinary matters must be handled through established procedures rather than through social media campaigns.
According to the statement, the University Management and Governing Council remain committed to enforcing the institution’s core values, described as the “3Vs” — Values, Viability, and Visibility. The administration, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, emphasized that no staff member found guilty of misconduct would be spared, regardless of status or position.

Management further disclosed that several petitions against lecturers are currently being investigated by the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee, whose findings will guide subsequent actions.
The statement noted that the recent disciplinary actions were possible because victims formally submitted complaints through approved institutional processes. Consequently, students were encouraged to obtain and familiarize themselves with the Students’ Regulation Handbook, which outlines proper procedures for lodging complaints and seeking redress.
COOU also warned against the misuse of social media, stressing that public trials on digital platforms could undermine ongoing efforts to ensure justice and institutional accountability.
Reiterating its commitment to transparency and justice, the University assured students, alumni, parents, and the general public that no legitimate complaint would be ignored or swept under the carpet.
The institution concluded by urging all stakeholders to support efforts aimed at building what it described as a “University of the Future” through responsible engagement and adherence to official communication channels.
