What are the Entry Requirements
If you have successfully choosen a university; I advise people always to make applications to about 3 to 5 universities. this will help in securing broader options in terms of convenience, take-off time and financing options.
After deciding the universities to apply to, check the entry reqiuremnsts. some of the major requirements includes:
- Academic Qualifications: If you are applying for MSc or Doctorate, you must ensure that your academic qualifications meet the minimum certifications; A’level or undergraduate certificates as the case may be. For undergraduate applicants, possession of A’level certificates or its equivqlents are compulsory.
- English Langauge Proficiency: This is always neccessary for non-English speakers. For appliacnts from NIgeria, they may be granted waiver if your previous academic programs were run in English. A West African State School Certificate (WASSC) is enough to prove this. However, other language certifications that must be needed for applicants from non-English speaking countries. Any of IELTS, TOEFL or PTE are always required.
Prepare Your Application Documents
Get all the neccessary documents ready. Documents needed includes:
- Academic Certificates and transcripts: Just note that a lot of UK universities put more interest on the transcripts. obtain the unofficial transcripts and collect your original certificates from your schools.
- Letter of Recommendations: This can be obtained from your former departmental head or employers, attesting to your good charcater, academic fitness and recommend you for further opportunities
- Copy of your international passport: Make sure that your passport is not expiring any moment soon, if not it is recommended you get it renewed.
- A passport photograph: Preferably on plain color background

Apply through UCAS or Directly to the schools
UCAS is the central body that is responsible for admission processing and student placement in UK, You can apply to any university of your choice through the UCAS portal or directly to the university.
Note: Applicatuon through the UCAS portal costs about £27. You have right to apply to about 4 universties.
Guidelines to Make Application through UCAS
- Visit the UCAS portal through https://www.ucas.com/
- signup and supply your personl and academic information
- submit the application before the deadline.
- Supply all the documents reqiured and the number of referees.
- Wait for your admission offer.

What Happens When I Recieve an Admission Offer?
There are two types of offer you are likely to get, the Conditional and unconditional offer. In conditional Offers, you may be required to meet certain reqiuremnst before enrollment either you are expected to submit more documents or financial proves while in unconditional offer, there are no further conditions required of you.
- login to the UCAS portal or the university website and accept your offer.
- Pay a deposit what we generally refer as acceptance fee in Nigeria.
After a deposit is made, the univerity normally may contact you with your Confirmaton of Acceptance to Study (CAS) letter and number. this should be an invaluable document to your visa application.
On reaching this stage, congratulations! You can now proceed to the embassy for your visa applications. you can as well submit visa application online; this will be covered in a seperate post.
