KASU Receives NUC Approval to Launch Distance Learning Institute

The Kaduna State University (KASU) has secured approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence academic activities at its newly established Distance Learning Institute, a major step toward expanding access to quality higher education through technology-driven learning.

The approval was conveyed in a letter dated 15 July 2026, following the successful validation of the proposed institute by an NUC panel that visited the university from 14 to 16 April 2026.
According to the NUC, the institute has been approved to begin operations with only the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme. The programme will be delivered through an ICT-enabled Supported Blended Learning model under Nigeria’s Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system.
The Commission directed KASU to fully comply with all existing guidelines governing distance learning programmes in Nigerian universities and to implement the recommendations contained in the NUC validation panel’s Technical Report.

As part of its quality assurance process, the NUC also announced that it will conduct a Post-Validation Assessment Exercise after the institute’s first year of operation. The Commission emphasized that any future expansion of academic offerings will require separate programme-by-programme assessment and approval.

The approval marks a significant milestone for Kaduna State University as it broadens educational opportunities for working professionals and other learners seeking flexible access to postgraduate education through digital and blended learning platforms.
