According to her account, posted on her Facebook wall, the incident dates back to 2010 when she successfully passed a highly competitive aptitude test organized by the Nigeria Society of Petroleum Engineers, Port Harcourt Section 103. The next step required verification of her academic records, particularly her CGPA, from her institution.

However, despite several email correspondences sent by the scholarship body to her school and department, no response was ever received. The person overseeing the scholarship personally contacted her to inform her that the delay from her institution was the only thing holding her back from being awarded the scholarship.

“An email was sent to my school to confirm my CGPA. Till today, there is no reply. The person in charge of the scholarship called me to tell me my school and department have not responded to series of emails sent to them,” she recounted painfully. “To cut the long story short, I missed the opportunity.”

Her story has sparked a fresh wave of concern about the administrative inefficiencies in some Nigerian tertiary institutions, with many questioning how many other brilliant students may have lost life-changing opportunities due to similar negligence.
