The Niger State Scholarship Board, established in 1976 following the creation of Niger State, is responsible for disbursing government scholarships and grants to indigenous students studying in Nigeria and abroad. Its mandate is to support student welfare, promote academic excellence, and encourage human capital development throughout the duration of students’ programs.

Since the change in administration in May 2007, the Board has strengthened its operations, ensuring regular and uninterrupted scholarship payments. The Board continues to work tirelessly to sustain the government’s goals and to guarantee that students receive the sponsorship and support necessary to succeed academically.

The 2025/2026 scholarship application period is officially open from 15th January to 14th February. All applicants are expected to complete their applications within this timeframe.

Niger State Scholarship Board: Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for any of the Niger State Scholarship Board schemes, applicants must meet the following criteria:

(a) State of Origin or Residency

Applicants must be:

  • Indigenes of Niger State, or
  • Recognized residents as defined by official government guidelines.

(b) Valid Full-Time Admission

Applicants must possess a valid full-time admission into an accredited Nigerian or foreign institution of higher learning.

  • Admission letters written in languages other than English must be accompanied by a certified true and accurate English translation.

(c) Academic Performance Requirements

Beneficiaries must maintain the academic performance level required by the specific scholarship scheme.
Academic review and performance verification will take place at the end of each academic session.

(d) Completion of the Scholarship Application Form

Applicants must:

  • Complete the online application form for the scholarship category they are applying for at the official website

(e) Timely Submission

Applicants must submit the completed application within the stipulated timeframe and meet all additional deadlines for proper processing.

To apply for the Niger State Scholarship Board 2025/2026 scholarship program, follow the steps below:

  • Once verified, your Acknowledgement Letter will be activated on your portal.
