The daughter of President Tinubu, Mujidat Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, has unveiled a major scholarship program that will support over 1,000 indigent Nigerian students seeking university education.
Tinubu-Ojo, who currently serves as the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, announced the scholarship initiative.
The scholarship will provide ₦400,000 tuition support per student for the 2025/2026 academic session, helping many students from low-income backgrounds gain access to higher education.
According to Tinubu-Ojo, the scholarship scheme was introduced as part of activities marking her second anniversary as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Havilla University.
She explained that the program reflects her commitment to youth empowerment and educational development in Nigeria.
Tinubu-Ojo emphasized that education remains one of the most powerful tools for reducing inequality in society.
“Education is the only leveler between the rich and the poor in society. Every Nigerian youth deserves access to quality education to secure a brighter future for the nation,” she said.
With ₦400,000 allocated per student, the initiative will significantly reduce the financial burden on families struggling to afford university education.
Reacting to the scholarship announcement, the Chancellor of Havilla University, , expressed appreciation for Tinubu-Ojo’s generosity and commitment to education.
Tangban, a former member representing Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency, praised the initiative and said it aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President .
He noted that the university leadership remains committed to expanding access to quality education and developing skilled graduates across Nigeria.
During the event, Tinubu-Ojo also commissioned a newly completed facility known as the Folasade Tinubu-Ojo Complex at Havilla University.
In addition, she laid the foundation for the Folasade Tinubu-Ojo Centre for Vocational Studies, which aims to promote technical and vocational education for Nigerian youths.
The new center is expected to help students develop practical skills for entrepreneurship and employment after graduation.
The scholarship program targets students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds who wish to pursue higher education.
Education advocates say initiatives like this could help reduce the number of Nigerian students who abandon university dreams due to financial constraints.
With over 1,000 students expected to benefit, the program is one of the largest private scholarship initiatives announced recently in Nigeria.
