The Senate of the University of Ilorin has approved the initial graduating list for the 2024/2025 academic session, confirming the results of 9,366 undergraduate students who have fulfilled all requirements for graduation. The number is expected to rise as more students complete outstanding obligations before the forthcoming convocation ceremonies.
The approvals were among the major highlights of the 306th Senate Meeting, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
The Senate ratified the programme for the University’s 40th Convocation Ceremonies, which will also mark UNILORIN’s 50th anniversary. The events are scheduled to run from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 26, 2025.
The Convocation Lecture will be delivered by Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, former Governor of Lagos State and former Minister of Power, Works, and Housing. The Chairman of the Ceremonials Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole, urged the University community to cooperate fully in ensuring a memorable celebration.
The Senate also announced significant leadership changes:
- Prof. Friday Onyekewere Nwosu, a Surface Chemistry specialist from the Department of Industrial Chemistry, was appointed as the new Dean of the Postgraduate School for a two-year term. He succeeds Prof. Bamidele Victor Owoyele.
- Prof. Godwin Tunde Arosanyin of the Department of Economics was elected to represent Senate on the University Governing Council, replacing Prof. Folu Emmanuel Ologe.
Congratulating Prof. Nwosu, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged him to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor and drive further innovations in postgraduate education.
Vice-Chancellor’s Address
In his opening remarks, Prof. Egbewole emphasized the significance of the University’s golden jubilee, calling on Senate members to identify 50 iconic research works from the past five decades to showcase during the celebrations.
He also highlighted his administration’s commitment to full automation of administrative processes, announcing that August 14, 2025, marked the final day for paper memo submissions by Deans and Directors. Moving forward, all communications will be digital.
Reflecting on his administration’s performance as it approaches its third year, Prof. Egbewole encouraged Senate members to review and critique his mid-tenure report, which is now available on the University website.
The Vice-Chancellor further commended academic and non-teaching staff, particularly Heads of Departments, Level Advisers, Faculty Officers, and administrative staff, for their contributions to the successful completion of the 2024/2025 academic session.
