Founded in 2001, the Developing Solutions Scholarship is the University of Nottingham’s flagship master’s programme for international students. Its primary aim is to support students who aspire to create meaningful change in key economic, environmental, structural, social, or political sectors within their home countries.

The scholarship covers full-time masters tuition fees for one year and is available to students who demonstrate ingenuity, innovation, and a strong commitment to development solutions.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for University of Nottingham Developing Solutions Masters Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be domiciled in Africa, India, or one of the selected Commonwealth countries
  • Be classed as an overseas student for fee purposes
  • Hold an offer to start a full-time masters (including MRes) for 2026/27 at the University of Nottingham UK, in one of the following faculties:
    • Faculty of Engineering
    • Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
    • Faculty of Science
    • Faculty of Social Sciences

Applicants Not Eligible

You cannot for the University of Nottingham Developing Solutions Masters Scholarship if you:

  • Are a current student or graduate of the University of Nottingham
  • Have studied and been awarded a degree outside your home country*
  • Are currently studying in the UK

University of Nottingham Developing Solutions Masters Scholarship | Eligible Countries

Africa (all nations), Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Brunei, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Fiji, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kiribati, Malaysia, Maldives, Montserrat, Nauru, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, St Helena, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tristan da Cunha, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis if prior study was undertaken in an eligible country.

How to Apply

Applicants must first receive an offer to study a full-time masters (including MRes) at the University of Nottingham

Important: You must pay the postgraduate application fee for your academic application to be processed.

Once you have an offer, apply through the NottinghamHub scholarships section.

Note: For two-year master’s courses, the scholarship only covers the first year of tuition fees.

Application Criteria

Applications are assessed primarily on:

  • Vision and plan to develop solutions that positively impact your home country
  • Alignment of your proposed solution with your course learning outcomes
  • Evidence of the ethos of Developing Solutions

  • Cannot be combined with other University scholarships; the highest-value scholarship will apply
