Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), has been awarded the prestigious Atlantic Fellowship for Equity in Brain Health.
The fellowship, jointly hosted by Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, and the University of California, USA, convenes outstanding researchers across the globe to foster multidisciplinary engagements in brain health, with particular focus on dementia and Alzheimer’s treatment.
Dr. Okoye, who also serves as the Faculty Career Officer for the Faculty of Arts, was selected through a rigorous and highly competitive process. His research builds on his doctoral dissertation, where he developed the concept of “RehabDramatics” an innovative approach that employs performing arts as a tool to stimulate and enhance psychosocial well-being in targeted contexts.
In recognition of his achievement, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK, Professor Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, congratulated Dr. Okoye on his fellowship and residency at the Global Brain Health Institute, Trinity College Dublin, describing it as a milestone that will further elevate the university’s global visibility.
Earlier this year, Dr. Okoye was also in the news following an altercation with a TikToker, Precious Mbakwe, who allegedly clashed with him while recording a video in the university hallway. Despite the incident, his recent accomplishment has spotlighted his academic contributions and growing international recognition.
