The Lekki Headmaster – Chapter 1 to 6,

The Lekki Headmaster was announced by the Joint Admission Matriculation Board as her chosen text for the year 2026 and 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. The author, Mr. Kabir Alabi Garba has taken to his twitter page to celebrate the feat.

One thing makes the text special, it is not just a literary text but an advocacy aimed ay correcting so many ills in the in the school system and the society ranging from the popular quest of youths to travel abroad which her termed “Japa syndrome” and job insecurity.

He also raised his voice loud speaking for school reforms and to ensure that academic standards never wane. It is a work coming from a seasoned lawyer, journalist, lecturer and writer.

The book is divided into 12 chapters. In this article, I will painstakingly explore all you need to know about the first 6 chapters.

The book revolves around a school named Stardom School; located in a heart of Lagos, Lekki and a  principal, Mr. Bepo who is so perfect in his game and has always stood for best practices in the school.

The Lekki Headmaster Chapter 1: Dusk 

In chapter 1 of the 2026 JAMB/UTME Text “The Lekki Headmaster”, the author talked about an unusual event that took place in the school one day. The principal, Mr. Bepo Adewale, arrived the student gathering very moody with ball of tears rolling down his cheek. Even after a speech by one of the students on the school excursion to jos, it was expected that the principal give out his comments but the day turned out to be a feast of tears. Every efforts to unravel the causes of his sad mood yielded no result. The Managing Director, Mrs Gloss was called, she drove down to the school, called Bepo to his office, but the principal refused letting out the cause of his sadness.

The Lekki Headmaster Chapter 2: The Enticement 

In this chapter, it was highlighted that after five days, Mr. Bepo finally opened up that the cause of his sad mood and tears was his recent plan to relocate to the United Kingdom. It has been a long standing Issues between him and his wife who resides overseas. He could not afford to lose his ties with his students at Stardom schools, the love he shared with them, his standards and relationships with staff and parents. Mr. Bepo always dreamt of retiring at 55 years, he has even started undertakings some trainings on entrepreneurship to prepare himself for his retirement days.

The Lekki Headmaster Chapter 3: Migration tales 

The chapter explores various experiences related to the Japa journey, highlighting tales of individuals who moved abroad for better opportunities. A friend in the U.S. shared that people can earn about $250 daily, but high living costs often diminish savings meant for remittance. Mr. Sola provided insights into the challenges faced by expatriates, including high tariffs, demanding work schedules, and relationship strains due to financial pressures. In contrast, Mr. Bepo’s situation was unique as his wife worked in the UK. The chapter also mentions Mrs. Rikki, who quickly acquired property overseas, while another man returned empty-handed after two decades abroad.

The Lekki Headmaster Chapter 4: Cases of Visa Denial

It was around 11:55pm when Mr. Bepo got a call from Mrs Ignatius, one of the parents at Mr Bepo’s School.

Mr. Bepo being a natural listener has always preferred that his relationship with parents of his students must be strictly formal and school related, but some has always deified this; to the extent of bringing marital Issues to him, the chapter explained how the Ignatius family has almost been brought to ruin due to visa denial as a result of DNA crisis during the immigration interview.

The Lekki Headmaster Chapter 5: Snake in the roof.

This chapter talked about one of the MD’s visit to some of the school properties where he made a shocking discovery that most of the staff had exotic cars.

The school Accountant and the principal was immediately summoned. She believed that the staff must be sharing the school finances among themselves.

“The school finances are intact, most of those cars were bought through loans from the school cooperative” the accountant said.

In furtherance, a meeting between the staff and the entire board was called, it was discovered that day that the school cooperative has about ₦95million while over ₦50m was on loan. It was hence resolved that no one will receive a loan of more than ₦250,000. This decision was made for the fear of the staff rising up one day and establish similar school that will match the standard of Stardom school.

The Lekki Headmaster Chapter 6: Ade as well as Jide Comes/Come 

The sixth chapter of the book was centred on Mr Fafore, an excellent English teacher who faced sack over a mere grammatical errors in the note he gave out to students.

A parent, Mr. Guta had visited the school to complain that the English teacher was nothing different from the market women selling onions.

The MD immediately ordered the principal to draft Fafore’s sack over incompetencies; Fafore taught the students that singular verb follows a coordinating conjunction “as well as..”, Mr. Guta believed it was wrong, the MD supported him but it was later discovered that the English teacher was right.

This uncovered more the job insecurity that most staff have to face at Stardom Schools because the MD wants to satisfy the parents.
